How do you exist?

Y.O.B. stays afloat through advertising and the help of people who seem to think we make some contribution to contemporary fiction.  We won't argue with that.  However, this is not always enough.  We are a new (but not inexperienced) publication looking to last--in the hopes that we are even vaguely original and startlingly intriguing.



What are your plans for the future?

Our goals are as follows:
  • to become a small press that can sell novelettes and pay authors royalties
  • to sell e-books through third party sites such as Fictionwise.com and eBooks.com
    • and to have those books available in various formats
  • to be able to reach out to more potential readers and writers through advertising campaigns
  • to become a member of literary organizations
  • to gain access to higher quality publishing software
  • to be able to hire freelancers/interns for a variety of tasks
  • to be able to attend book and zine festivals in as many places as possible

sample image First of all, I'm glad you asked.  There are a number of secure ways to help Y.O.B. out monetarily (some without spending money).  Listed below are a few options to that end.

Google Ads

One way to donate to YOB (without actually spending money!) is to click on the Google ads you see throughout the website.  You'll know them when you see them.  Click as many as you'd like without buying a damn thing.  The amount of money we make depends on the advertiser's budget, so there's no set rate; but within a matter of minutes, money from clicked ads is deposited into an account.  Twenty clicks is about $20.

Become an Affiliate

Another way to help out (without spending a cent) is affiliate programs.  If you are the publisher of a blog or website, you can make money by applying to affiliate programs.  Simply complete the required application and place relevant ads on your site (or blog) using Javascript or HTML.  Every time one of your viewers purchases an item from the ad on your website you earn either a percentage of that sale or a flat rate (which varies per advertiser).

Paypal

For those of you interested in giving money directly to Year of the Bear, Paypal is one of those ways.  Clicking on the "Donate!" button on the upper right-hand corner of this page will take you to a Paypal payment screen where you can pay via credit/debit card or e-check.  You do not need a Paypal account to send us money.

Amazon Honor System

We are quite aware that Paypal is not an infallible system.  Thus, if you don't feel comfortable donating through Paypal, perhaps you might consider paying through the Amazon Honor System.  Again, you do not need an Amazon account to use the Amazon Honor System; you may use a debit/credit card for this option as well.

Clickiing on the Amazon Honor System button at the top right-hand corner of the page will take you to an Amazon Paypage which will include a blurb written by "The Editor" and our donation goal--which is $1,000.

Upon payment, a percentage fee and a small flat rate is deducted from the donation for the Amazon Honor System service.  This may be a good way to ensure the safety of your money and your identity, but not all of your donation goes straight to YOB.

Buy from our Affiliates

If you were already planning on purchasing from Amazon, Allposters.com, etc., why not purchase their products via our site?  Your money is dealt with securely through that site and a percentage/flat rate is deposited into our account.  Win-win situation.
